About the One Love Show:
The Annual One Love Show is a multicultural exhibition, which showcases cultural traditions through the arts. Incorporating an array of cultural communities on campus, the Annual One Love Show is an exciting, and interactive presentation that seeks to establish cultural connections spanning across all borders. It also uses light-hearted humor and an entertaining line-up of performances to gain and maintain interest year-to year. In addition, Zeta Sigma Chi seeks to educate the audience on the background and significance of each cultural art form. The Show was created to allow communities to come together and experience diversity and multiculturalism through the arts. Through step, song, dance, spoken word and more, the audiences as well as performers are exposed to various cultural art forms while also displaying their cultural knowledge and background by interacting with others. With a sold out crowd of over 500 attendees and over 150 performers expected at this years show, it will prove to be a very entertaining and engaging show for both the performers and the audience.
How is This Year’s Show is Different:
The 9th Annual One Love Show will take place Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 7:00pm in the Michigan League Ballroom. This year, Zeta Sigma Chi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. is using the show as an approach to the question, “What is Culture?” This year’s One Love show will incorporate film, music, dance, stepping, painting, poetry, and photography to display the four core areas of culture: a. Values and Beliefs b. Habits and Customs c. Social Organization and d. Environment and Time Period. Each of these areas will incorporate the various aspects of student life that help to create our culture at the University of Michigan. Exploring religion, family values, food, dance, music, social movements, political involvement, language, and fashion this year’s show will serve as a well-rounded approach to understanding culture.
